Je suis un peu malade, bubba woo

Salut ma famille!

I'm a little bit sick this week. There's been a little bit of a cold going around this place, and when you are with people all day every day, it is super easy to spread it. I've been using hand sanitizers 30 times a day but alas, it got me. Yesterday and today I've been pretty stuffed up and tired, but I think by tomorrow I will be ok. But HEY! RED ROCK IS TODAY!! Right now you are probably driving down to the start, maybe getting ready to start, I don't really know. But I'm thinking about you and praying for you and I am a tiny bit jealous. Seriously, only a tiny bit. I want to be there and have fun times and be in good enough shape to run it, but then when I think about my beloved midnight run last year, I feel a little bit better about where I am. But I know you are going to great! And Mom, I know you are going to do great timing the Xango race. Bon chance!

So I hear we won the football game on Saturday, n'est-ce pas? It was exciting/weird because I had to go up to the temple (story to come shortly) and I could see the stadium and hear each of your voices clearly! Haha, not clearly, but I could hear the crowd and it made me want to be there very badly. I wore a cougar blue shirt to show my support though. Also, during my gym time on Saturday, which was right around 1:30 or something, I was playing a nice little game of hackey sack with some of my peeps, and I am pretty sure I heard the band practicing. Were you practicing or was I making stuff up? OH and I'm pretty sure I heard you practicing last night too, around 6? That was crazy.

So last Friday when we went to the temple, I let Soeur Kenny borrow my white sweater because she gets cold during the sessions (which is totally weird because I'm always sweating in there, it's so warm). She decided to accidently leave it in the endowment room so we had to go back to the temple on Saturday to get it from the lost and found. The security guy took us in all these secret hallways and rooms where they keep all the lost and found things. Who knew that the temple had those kinds of places? We saw the computer where they show all of the security cameras and stuff. It was awesome.

Alright, I have another pretty great story for this week. So they finally started up the MTC choir again after like 4 months. They hadn't been having it because they were redoing the bleacher seats (not bleachers, they are actually seats) in the gym so there wasn't enough room for the choir, yadda yadda yadda. But they finally started it up again this week so my whole district decided to do it. It was pretty much a first come first serve kind of thing because there was only a limited number of seats. But we had a one hour practice and then we got to sing in the Devotional that night. Rad, right? We sang this sweet little medley of children's songs that aren't in the Children's Songbook, but they were lovely. AND get this. Afterwards, so many people (like my branch presidency members, Sister Ricks, other random missionaries) kept coming up to us and telling us they saw us singing. I guess my companions and I were on the screen like every time they showed the sisters singing. Chouette! The only bad thing is that I'm pretty sure that the MTC choir is going to maybe sing at General Conference...right after I leave. Bummer. Oh well though, I will be watching Conference from Switzerland! The Devotional talk itself was so good as well. It was Lowell M. Snow from the second quorum of the Seventy. He talked about how our choices literally define us. Every choice in our life leads us to who we are. We can either choose Christ, or choose everything else. I'm not sure if they have the transcripts of these Devotional talks anywhere, but you should read it if you can find it. Or watch it and see your lovely daughter/sister singing, if you can find that.

Oh, there are two other good talks that I watched on the computer this week. Like really good. Elder Scott's "Importance of Prayer" and Elder Bednar's talk about Following the Spirit. I'm not sure the exact title of it, but he gave it at the MTC sometime last year. Look those up if you can.

So our TRC experience was interesting this week. We had to teach the first lesson in French again, but this time to a non-Christian. Our investigator was a nonpracticing Jew, and he seemed just really curious, for information's sake. He didn't seem interested in really knowing if what we were saying was true, you know? So it was a little hard, for me personally, to feel the Spirit. I have noticed, though, that no matter what, the Spirit is strongest when we testify. Even Sister Kenny, who is struggling a lot with the language and speaks really really simply, when she testifies even in a few words, the Spirit is there. It's amazing. I did feel ok about the language though. I think that I could understand most of what this guy was saying and asking, but then again he isn't a native French speaker. We will see what happens in two and a half weeks!

We got a bunch of new missionaries in our zone this week. We only got 2 new sisters though. We are a definite minority. But I got to teach all the new missionaries about goal-setting, planning, and MDT last night.

So now a couple of random little things: Tell Jill Congratulations on her baby! What did they name her? Also tell Trevor congratulations on his mission call. That's so so wonderful.

Our classroom is a stinky place, mostly because it's full of immature 19 year old boys. But they bought some air freshener spray the other day and guess what: it's the exact same kind we use (or at least used to use) in the store. So whenever they spray it, I am reminded of Fleet Feet Sports.

Oh, Dad, question: I was practicing teaching one of the elders in my district the other day in preparation for the TRC scenario and he was being silly and playing the part of a Native American, but he was speaking French, of course. But then I remembered that western movie we watched where there really were Indians who spoke French, right? Was it Jeremiah Johnson?

Ok my time is almost up. You will be getting written letters from me in a few days. I love you all very much and miss you like crazy! Thank you for writing so much during the week! I LOVE YOU!

Love,
ALLIE
